Impact

Slow Food believes that everyone should have access to good, clean and fair food, and is creating new production and consumption systems to achieve this. Our results bring systemic change to communities around the world: creating new awareness and behavior change through projects with producers and consumers. As an organization working on many levels – from the local to global, and from spontaneous grassroots activities to key projects – our overall impact is challenging to gauge. Our projects are often concerned with long-term and downstream change, and our scope is enlarged through our replicable project models. The Ark of Taste, Presidia, Earth Markets, Food Education projects, and Terra Madre were born and first tested in Italy, and have since been replicated in many countries across the globe. Communities in 150 countries have now been touched by Slow Food's reach.

Terra Madre was initiated by Slow Food in 2004 to give visibility to small-scale sustainable farmers and link them with other stakeholders for collaborative change in our food systems. Since then, three international meetings and many regional and local Terra Madre events have been held, spreading Slow Food’s mission significantly and increasing our social, environmental, and economic impact across the globe.

• More than 1,000 Slow Food convivia - local chapters – and 1600 Terra Madre communities are building a good, clean and fair future across 150 countries.
• The Ark of Taste lists 800 foods as risk of extinction, raising their profile to protect species, traditions and cultures from disappearing.
