SALONE DEL GUSTO / TERRA MADRE SPECIAL - Conferences Packed on the Salone del Gusto’s Second Day

Italy - 24 Oct 08

Visitor numbers for the second day of Salone del Gusto were up from the previous edition. Though Thursday at 6 pm attendance figures were slightly down from 2006, the drop was amply recovered in the course of the evening, and by Friday figures were up by 1,700 compared to 2006, for a total of 36,100. During the first two days the total number of visitors was 60,100.
“What’s most interesting is not just the unexpected rise in visitors,” said Roberto Burdese, president of Slow Food Italy, “but the fact that the joint Terra Madre-Salone del Gusto conferences also proved hugely popular: over 500 people for the debate on GMOs, and it was standing room only for the presentation of the Manifesto on Climate Change and the Future of Food Safety.”
