Terra Madre hosts TORINO SISTEMA SOLARE
02 Oct 08 - News da Terra Madre
The location of the opening and closing ceremonies of Terra Madre - the Isozaki Palace (Palasport Olimpico Isozki) - will host a special event on Friday October 24: No Nuke! Rock contro il nucleare (rock against nuclear). Some of Italy’s best artists will take to the stage to present the Torino Sistema Solare movement. Part of the concert profits will help finance the travel costs to Turin of three Terra Madre food communities who utilize solar energy in their agricultural production: organic chocolate producers from Saint Patrick (Grenada), fruit and lentil growers and processors from Baguinèeda (Mali) and dried fruit producers from Pwani (Tanzania).

Turin is mobilizing against projects to restore nuclear energy in Italy and to support the campaign 20/20/20 (-20% emissions, +20% alternative energy, +20% energy reductions). Information initiatives will take place over the course of the day and the evening.
Twenty-five years on since the historical anti-nuclear concert held at Valentino Castle, and twenty-two years since the Chernobyl disaster, none of the concerns and problems raised then have been even minimally resolved.
Radioactive waste, plant safety and extremely high costs, all render the pro-nuclear choice ahistorical. Fans of the ‘atom’ are forgetting that it is not possible to wait ten years to reduce consumption without investing in alternative energy.

TORINO SISTEMA SOLARE will be the benchmark logo for all the artists, local venues and other organizations involved in this environment day, which will also offer the opportunity to discuss alternative energy.
The concert will be held on the Terra Madre stage, the huge world meeting of food communities, in full support of the project’s principles and philosophy.
“We are part of a spontaneous organization made up of places, actions, ideas, sounds, projects and individual and collective resistance that revolve around the idea of an open and never resigned city’.
Tickets are 12 euro.
All of the artists are performing for free.
Profits will support clean energy projects with Terra Madre communities in the developing world and social rights campaigns.
