Terra Madre Communities and Slow Food Convivia

Terra Madre is a global project created by Slow Food, with the aim of forming networks between all the links in the food production chain, with food communities at the center. The hope is to identify and promote a new system for food production and distribution, more respectful of people, the land and the sea. These communities of herders, farmers and fishers work locally to defend their artisanal practices. Every two years, the members of the Terra Madre network come together in Turin, Italy, to discuss their common problems and to make their voices heard.

Slow Food convivia are local associations that bring together the 100,000 members of Slow Food. To date there are 1,300 convivia spreading the Slow Food philosophy around the world and translating it into concrete actions, each working in line with the preferences and imagination of its members. Every convivium organizes events and activities, and some are particularly involved in the issues around fishing and seafood.

In this section, we'll be celebrating all the men and women in our networks: fishermen and fisherwomen, fish farmers, cooks, consumers, journalists, educators, volunteers, convivium members and many more, who are all taking big or small steps towards producing and consuming fish responsibly.
