Slow Fish in Action

Slow Fish Canada, The Video

SLOW FISH - KNOW YOUR FISHERMAN from Kevin Kossowan on Vimeo.

"In the course of filming a short documentary with Slow Food in Canada, a number of fisheries stories emerged as integral to the big picture. It became clear that we had to make an entire film about ‘Slow Fish' across the country. Far from a contrived piece, the Slow Fish film evolved organically as the story of Canada's fisher people, from the Pacific to the Atlantic, including an inland fishery success story in the Okanagan and an urban piece from Toronto. Every single story expresses a desire to manage this largely wild food source in an ecologically sustainable way by strengthening the bonds between consumers, producers, and aquatic ecosystems. This film follows various actors within Canada's fisheries to celebrate the resources and responsibilities that link us all. This was the first Canadian Slow Fish film, but my hope is that it won't be the last. While land-based agriculture continues to attract most of our attention, fisheries stories and the issues around them are endless, and sharing these storied is essential to understanding how one of the last, truly wild resources should be sustained and protected."
